John D. Hooker Jr. and Associates is family-owned and operated right here in Virginia Beach, VA. Since our firm opened in 1973, we’ve treated every client like they were a part of our family. Other firms may offer similar services, but our services are the best, and come with a personal touch.
Mr. Hooker obtained his undergraduate degree from Hampden-Sydney College, followed by his Juris Doctorate at the Marshall School of Law of the College of William and Mary. Graduating in 1973, and began his practice that same year. He is a member of not only the Virginia Beach Bar Association and the Virginia State Bar, but also the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Criminal Law Section of the Virginia State Bar. He served on the Virginia State Bar Council for 8 years. Mr. Hooker has served on many committees in the Virginia Beach Bar Association to include having served as the President in 1991, the executive committee both prior and after 1991, and is member of the Past Presidents Council. In 2002 he was awarded the Bar Service Award by the Virginia Beach Bar Association representing his service and commitment to the association and the profession. He has been awarded the AV rating in Martndale-Hubbell resulting from an extensive and confidential peer review by members of the bar to include Lawyers and Judges. The AV rating, which identifies a lawyer with very high to preeminent legal ability, is a reflection of his expertise, experience, integrity, and overall professional excellence, demonstrating the highest professional and ethical standards. He has been a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) speaker for the Virginia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Virginia Beach Bar Association, and the Virginia State Bar, on topics ranging from criminal law to ethics. Mr. Hooker continues the family legacy by his devotion to the legal profession. His Father was a Judge of the Circuit Court for the 21st. Judicial Circuit of the Commonwealth of Virginia for thirty-two years. His Grandfather practiced law with Mr. Hooker's father and also served as a member of the United States Congress. Mr. Hooker is married to his wife Kristin and they have a son Johnny III.
